An age calculator helps you to determine your age or that of a particular item based on the date of birth or acquisition. It displays age in terms of years, months, and weeks. Also, age can help to find the length of time between any two dates.
According to our calculator, the start date represents zero. It then counts days, weeks, months, and years starting from that day. This article explains how to calculate age with or without the calculator and arrive at accurate results.
What Is the Chronological Age?
Chronological Age is the length of time a person has been alive since birth or an object has existed since creation. By calculating how old you are, you end up determining your chronological age. The chronological Age starts the day you’re born and increases continuously with the passage of time. It can be presented in terms of days, weeks, months, or years you have been alive.
Some countries do not use the Western system that determines age chronologically. In some cultures, the current year is either included or excluded. For example, in the traditional Chinese system, a child is one year old the day they’re born. The age then increases each Chinese New Year. Thus, a child who is born a few days before the Chinese New Year would be two years old in no time.
How Is Age Calculated
The age calculator determines age in terms of years, months, weeks, and days. Regardless of the units displayed, it’s critical to remember that a normal year has 365 days while a leap year has 366 days.
Therefore, calculating age in years means the calculator will display it in common terms. For example, if someone is 21 years old, the age includes 16 normal years and 5 leap years. The individual’s age is 21 and cannot be stated in terms of the type of years. Our age calculator regularizes between regular and leap years, providing standard results.
That’s also true for an age when calculated in months. Months may have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. In recognition of that, the calculator generalizes the number of days in a month to 28 days. Therefore, all month’s years are equal.
If you intend to know age in terms of days, the calculator uses a different function that accounts for the extra day in leap years. It looks at the number of months with 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. The calculator automatically identifies the leap years and counts the days appropriately.
So, you can be sure that the calculator will display the exact number of days between a past date and the current date. The following is the formula for finding your age in terms of the total number of days:
Age = {(Number of Regular Years Ă— 365) + (Number of Leap Years Ă— 366) + Number of Days in a Partial Year}
Our age calculator takes the start date to be zero and starts counting a full day from that point. For example, the number of days between 12/22/2022 and 12/30/2022 is 8 days instead of nine. The counts day 1 as 12/23/2022 instead of 12/22/2022.
How to Use the Age Calculator
Using an age calculator is much easier than trying to figure out your age on your own. After inputting your date of birth, press Calculate and the online calculator will do the math for you. Here are the steps you can take when using the calculator:
Step 1: Enter Your Date of Birth
First, you must input your date of birth. The age calculator has a built-in calendar that makes selecting a date of birth extremely easy. It displays the date in terms of the month, day, and year. The following are the date formats that work with this particular calculator:
- mm/dd/yy

The date format appears automatically, making it unnecessary to grapple with whether or not you should use the European or international date formats. For the sake of illustration, we entered 12/28/2022 as the date of birth.
Step 2: Calculate Your Age
After entering your date of birth, there’s only one step to go. Click or press Calculate and wait for the results. Using its internal algorithms, the calculator processes results in a few seconds.
Step 3: Check the Results
The age calculator displays results in terms of years, months, weeks, and days. Therefore, regardless of the units you want, the calculator will provide it. Our example yielded results in terms of 20 years, 240 months, 1,043 weeks, and 7,305 days.
